YOUTH GROUP

When Stamford Bridge Players Youth Group set up in order to tackle "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" in 2014, some thought it was an impossible challenge.

But the youngsters of the village proved the sceptics wrong, and thus began the start of a group that has continued for the past 10 years entertaining not only parents but the public of Stamford Bridge by performing in their own shows as well as supporting (and sometimes leading) the adults in the annual pantomime

Since 2014, the Youth Group has put on at least one performance each year , and often two, with a show either taking place in the summer or just before Christmas - they even managed to make a Christmas video during COVID lockdown as they were permitted to continue as an after-school activity in line with local schools.

These shows were generally light-hearted and allowed the younger members the opportunity to take a leading role to help develop their skills

In 2019, the group put on another major show - a two hour musical version of "OZ - To the Emerald City and Back", a show based on The Wizard of Oz but with an original script and songs written especially for them.

This proved a great success, and so two years later, they performed another original show - this time comprising two musical plays - "Through the Looking Glass" and Scrooge".

But it's not all been acting. There have been workshops to help develop an understanding of how a theatre works.

There was a visit from one of the local make-up artists when some of the group ended up going home in a grizzly state!!

And Martin Barras, who has for a number of years been a fixture on the York pantomime scene, came and ran a workshop with the group.

Finally, we managed a backstage trip to the Grand Opera House, Leeds which even involved an opportunity to "tread the boards"!!!
